At a press conference in Chennai on June 1, 2005, the Tamil actor promised to unveil his party’s name and ideology at the first State conference. On September 14, 2005, during the conference at Madurai, Vijayakant unveiled his party name – Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam – and its flag.
