Supreme Court allows release of animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath after Rath Yatra, says animation cannot erode devotion

The Bench took the middle path by allowing the movie to be released, but only after the completion of the ongoing Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 27, 2026. The court directed that the film could be released on or after July 28.

US mortgage giant in share issue

US mortgage giant Fannie Mae is to sell $7bn of shares to raise money to cushion itself against losses in sub-prime home loans. The additional capital will allow the company to "manage increased risk in the housing and credit markets". Fannie Mae, which finances or guarantees one of every five home loans in the United States, will also cut its dividend by 30%. This follows similar moves by smaller rival Freddie Mac. Fannie Mae last month reported a third-quarter loss of $1.4 bn. Bad times The company said that worsening housing and credit markets will hurt its fourth quarter and 2008 results. "Fannie Mae has a responsibility to serve the mortgage market in good times and in times like these," Daniel Mudd, Fannie Mae's chief executive officer, said in a statement. Mexico's Peso Ends Weaker At 10.9125/Dlr On Risk Aversion

Mexico's peso closed weaker against the dollar Monday as local stocks came under heavy selling along with other emerging markets. The peso was quoted closing in Mexico City at MXN10.9125 to the dollar, compared with MXN10.9285 at the opening and MXN10.8725 at Friday's close. Emerging market stocks were hard hit as investor worries about the economic fallout from U.S. financial sector problems led them to cut back on riskier assets. The Mexican stock market's IPC index was down 2.8%, despite gains in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. "The main factor acting against the peso in the short term is the perception of lower growth in the U.S.," the Invex brokerage said in its weekly outlook.
